Mosaic tile construction precautions

Nov. 29, 2019

Mosaic was the earliest mosaic art. It originated in ancient Greece with colored tiles such as pebbles, shells, small ceramic tiles, small tiles, or glass fragments. In modern times, mosaics are often referred to as a special way of existing bricks. Generally, dozens of small bricks are used to form a larger-sized brick. ). It is widely used in interior and exterior wall floor decoration because of its small and exquisite and colorful features.

There are many types of modern mosaics. In addition to the common ceramic mosaics, marble mosaics, and glass mosaics, there are crystal mosaics, metal mosaics, resin mosaics, hexagon seashell mosaic tile, coconut shell mosaics, solid wood mosaics, and boat wood mosaics.

Mosaic tile construction precautions

1. Considering construction thickness

The thickness of the mosaic itself varies, ranging from two millimeters to five millimeters. Some special material mosaics can even reach one centimeter. In addition, there are differences in the thickness of mosaics and tiles, so in order to make the wall as a whole flat, sometimes it is necessary to consider making a leveling layer in a thinner area.

2. The spacing of construction joints should be uniform

The gap between the pieces of mosaic must be uniform, and the size of the gap should be equal to the original gap between the small pieces of brick glass mosaic, so that the entire wall surface is integrally formed. It can't be seen that it is made up of a large piece of mosaic pattern.

3. Make good construction rhythm

During the mosaic paving process, phenomena such as slipping, slipping, etc. may occur. These conditions are generally caused by the inadequate construction rhythm. A better practice is to wait for the cement in the previous batch to harden slightly, and then paste a batch on top, then the effect will be better.

4. Jointing with a joint filler

Nowadays, joint fillers are generally used for jointing. Wipe it with wet white cement first, then dry it with dry cement as soon as possible, and finally clean it with a dry towel. The effect of the mosaic wall will be more uniform, and the decorative effect will be much stronger than the block material. Because no construction joints are visible.

Hexagon Glass Mosaic

Hexagon Glass Mosaic

Glass mosaics are generally bright and eye-catching, gorgeous and elegant, and can immediately capture the visual focus of the viewer. It is different from other tiles or marble materials. Its zero water absorption makes it an ideal material for wall decoration in bathrooms. It is not easy to hide dirt and is self-cleaning. It has excellent alkali resistance and uniform color. The glaze is applied for a long time, so the original color of the puzzle is preserved. The disadvantage is that it is not resistant to collision, and the wear resistance is also poor, especially the back paint mosaic must use a neutral adhesive, otherwise the phenomenon of alkaline biting is easy to occur.

What are the characteristics of mosaics?

(1) Low water absorption, especially for 3D glass mosaic, ordinary adhesives are difficult to adhere. An adhesive with excellent adhesion is required to prevent bricks from falling.

(2) Often with a back net, sometimes Netease is detached from the mosaic. When designing, you should choose no back net, or products with back net, but the back net and mosaic are firmly bonded.

(3) The size is very small. When the base layer is uneven, the finish flatness and effective bonding area are difficult to guarantee. Requires very good flatness at the base.

(4) Often transparent, especially glass mosaics, which easily penetrate through the bottom and form watermarks.
